Performance Honda Acura Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator. Get The Right Amount of Fuel, At The Right Time Into Your Engine

If you become a little more aggressive with your performance modifications, your engine will begin starving for more fuel to keep it happy. To fix that you could do a  couple of things. First you can add more pressure in the fuel system, when each injector opens more fuel will pass through it. Second you can increase the time that an injector is open and that means more fuel will be delivered even at the same pressure. The last think you can do, to satisfy your engine needs for more fuel is to install fuel system components like injectors, fuel pump, fuel regulator and rail that can physically flow more fuel.

An adjustable Honda Acura fuel regulator is one of the first modifications for your fuel system. The aftermarket unit is a direct bolt-on, with the same vacuum connections but with an adjustment screw on top. Loosening or tightening the screw will change the fuel system pressure. Ones you start changing the fuel pressure you are going to need a reliable way to measure it. You are going to need a quality fuel pressure gage. Most Honda Acura enthusiasts mount theirs on top of the fuel filter or on the fuel rail. The stock fuel rail will have to be modified in order to mount a fuel gage. If you do not want to drill a hole and cut a thread in you stock fuel rail for the gage the only other option is replacing it with performance Honda Acura fuel rail. This rails have a threaded hole just for adding a gage. Do not try to have the gage inside the car by running a fuel line into the cockpit so you can watch it under driving conditions. A problem with the gage or the fuel line can set you on fire. If you want the fuel gage inside the car, than you need an electrical gage that has a sensor for bolting in to the fuel rail.

By increasing the pressure in the fuel system you are also increasing the load that the injectors have to handle. Too much fuel pressure can make them stick and the added pressure will shorten their life. On cars with mild bolt-on modifications do not raise the fuel pressure more than 10 % over the stock one. On a Honda Acura with 40 psi as stock fuel pressure you could safely raise it with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to 44.5 psi, if your modifications require an increase. Whatever you do don't exceed 80 psi the injectors are going to stick and they will have to be replaced. It is also possible to get a fuel pump or fuel line damage. Some turbo and supercharger modifications may require 80 psi of fuel pressure, all the fuel lines will have to be upgraded to braided stainless fuel hoses or high pressure rated metal lines. The manufacturer of the turbo or supercharger should say in the instructions what fuel pressures are best. If you are using boosted or nitro application you must use a bypass type fuel pressure regulator with a separate return line back to the fuel tank. Too much pressure could cause the fuel pump to fail.

The best way to find out what is the right fuel pressure for your car is to use chassis dyno. You should start from stock pressure  or a little below increasing it by 2 %  until the power gain flattens out. Reprogramming your ECU or chip to handle higher fuel pressure is a good idea but there is a limit to how much the stock ECU can handle. It is not a bad idea to switch to premium gasoline in order to prevent detonation. It is possible to get from 0-10 hp tuning the fuel pressure with a performance Honda Acura fuel regulator on bolt-on equipped cars.
